Abu Dhabi to Test New IVF Technology in 2027
New Partnership to Advance Fertility Research
Abu Dhabi is preparing to investigate a new laboratory technology that could help researchers understand embryo development during in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).
ART Fertility Clinics has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vienna-based biotechnology company dawn-bio GmbH to collaborate on reproductive medicine research.
The agreement was signed during the Abu Dhabi Future Health Summit 2026.
The clinical investigation is expected to enrol its first participant in 2027, subject to the required ethical and regulatory approvals.
Study to Examine an Innovative IVF Culture System
The research will focus on dawn-bio's Offspring IVF culture system, which is designed for laboratory conditions where embryos develop during fertility treatment.
In IVF procedures, eggs are fertilised outside the body before embryos are kept in carefully controlled laboratory environments.
Researchers will examine how the investigational system performs and whether laboratory conditions can influence early embryo development.
The study is intended to generate clinical evidence about the technology rather than introduce it as an established treatment.
Patient Safety and Ethical Approval Remain Priorities
Dawn-bio will sponsor the investigation, while ART Fertility Clinics in Abu Dhabi will provide the research site.
The project must receive approval from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi Ethics Committee and follow recognised international standards for medical-device research.
Participation will be voluntary, and joining the study will not change a patient's treatment decisions or standard medical care.
Researchers will also use coded patient information and follow applicable UAE and European Union data protection requirements.
Abu Dhabi Expands Its Reproductive Health Research
The partnership supports Abu Dhabi's wider plans to strengthen reproductive healthcare through scientific research, advanced technology and international cooperation.
The emirate is working to bring healthcare providers, researchers and biotechnology companies together to explore new approaches to fertility care.
Officials have highlighted the importance of responsible innovation, regulatory oversight and informed patient choice.
While the new IVF system is still being investigated, the planned study could provide useful evidence for future research in reproductive medicine.
