UAE’s Alpha Dhabi to invest $1b in Alpha Wave III after SpaceX, OpenAI, Anthropic exposure
Alpha Dhabi Holding, listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange, has signed an agreement to commit $1 billion (Dh3.67 billion) to Alpha Wave III, a global investment fund managed by Alpha Wave Global.
The investment will provide the Abu Dhabi-based investment holding company with diversified exposure to artificial intelligence (AI) companies through the fund.
The agreement follows Alpha Dhabi’s participation in Alpha Wave Ventures II, which provided the group with indirect exposure to companies including SpaceX, OpenAI and Anthropic.
Alpha Wave III is expected to invest globally in AI and high-growth businesses developing and applying transformative technologies. Alpha Dhabi said the fund offers access to long-term structural growth opportunities through a specialised investment platform.
Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, Alpha Dhabi Holding manages more than 250 public and private investments across 45 countries, with a global workforce of 95,000 employees.
Alpha Dhabi Expands Its Investment in AI and Innovation
The $1 billion commitment builds on Alpha Dhabi’s existing participation in Alpha Wave funds and expands its access to opportunities in artificial intelligence and innovation-led businesses.
Eng. Hamad Al Ameri, Managing Director and Group CEO of Alpha Dhabi Holding, said the investment supports the company’s portfolio diversification strategy and its focus on long-term value creation.
He added that the commitment reflects the group’s disciplined approach to allocating capital to opportunities that can deliver lasting value for shareholders.
Through Alpha Wave III, Alpha Dhabi aims to gain exposure to businesses developing technologies with the potential to transform industries and support future economic growth.
How Will Alpha Dhabi Fund the $1 Billion Commitment?
Alpha Dhabi intends to finance the investment by recycling cash distributions from Alpha Wave Ventures II, alongside its existing financial resources.
The capital will be deployed over time, depending on the fund’s investment programme and capital calls.
This approach will allow the company to allocate funds progressively rather than deploy the entire commitment immediately.
The timing and scale of the financial impact will depend on when capital is invested and how the underlying investments perform.
Returns Will Depend on Fund Performance
Alpha Dhabi expects to realise value from the investment through distributions and exits over the fund’s lifetime.
However, the returns will depend on the performance and valuation of the fund’s underlying investments. The company will recognise the financial impact over time as capital is deployed and investment outcomes emerge.
According to Alpha Dhabi, the commitment aims to strengthen portfolio diversification and support attractive long-term, risk-adjusted returns.
The agreement remains subject to any applicable approvals.
What the Investment Means for Alpha Dhabi
The $1 billion commitment represents another step in Alpha Dhabi Holding’s strategy to diversify its investments and expand its exposure to AI and other transformative technologies.
By investing through Alpha Wave III, the group aims to access global growth opportunities while maintaining a long-term approach to capital allocation and shareholder value creation.
