Nearly 1,000 Children Receive Specialised Medical Care in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi Partnership Expands Access to Advanced Child Healthcare
Nearly 1,000 children have received specialised medical treatment in Abu Dhabi through a healthcare partnership between SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital in the United States.
Between April 2025 and June 2026, the collaboration provided specialised care to 969 children.
It also helped 189 families access advanced paediatric treatment locally, reducing the need to travel overseas for medical services.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to improve access to specialised healthcare for young patients.
The results were announced ahead of the 20th SEHA International Paediatric Conference, taking place from October 16 to 18, 2026.
International Paediatric Conference Brings Experts Together
The three-day SEHA International Paediatric Conference 2026 is being held at Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi.
Organisers expect approximately 700 healthcare professionals to attend the event and exchange medical knowledge.
The programme includes 30 presentations, six workshops and contributions from 29 international speakers, alongside UAE specialists.
Discussions cover genetic disorders, gene therapy, children's mental health, heart and kidney diseases, and respiratory conditions.
The conference aims to support medical professionals in managing complex childhood illnesses through improved knowledge and clinical practices.
Specialised Treatments Strengthen Children's Healthcare Services
The partnership between SKMC and Cincinnati Children’s supports several areas of specialised paediatric medicine.
These include children's heart surgery, neurology, cancer treatment, bone marrow transplantation and rehabilitation services.
By sharing international expertise, the collaboration aims to strengthen local medical capabilities and improve treatment options for families.
Specialists will also discuss rare childhood diseases and approaches to treating patients with complex medical needs.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts to make advanced healthcare more accessible across Abu Dhabi.
Doctors Share Research and Complex Medical Cases
The conference provides a platform for doctors and researchers to exchange knowledge and explore developments in paediatric medicine.
UAE-based healthcare professionals will present eight complex medical cases and seven research abstracts during the event.
International experts will contribute insights from their clinical experience and discuss practical approaches to patient care.
The programme also encourages collaboration between medical teams working in different countries and specialities.
Through these discussions, organisers aim to strengthen professional skills and support better healthcare services for children across the UAE.
