Dubai Unveils Rare 888.88-Carat Black Diamond Named Infinity
Dubai has hosted the first public presentation of Infinity, an extraordinary natural black diamond weighing 888.88 carats.
The rare gemstone was unveiled during the Dubai Diamond Conference, organised by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
Diamond Trading NV, a company based in Antwerp, presented the remarkable stone to international industry representatives.
Its unusual colour, impressive size and distinctive natural characteristics have attracted attention from the global diamond trade.
The showcase also highlighted Dubai's growing importance as a destination for the precious stones industry.
A Diamond With Roots in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Infinity originated in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and was created from a rough diamond weighing 1,138 carats.
The original stone was acquired by Andrew Coxon in 1975 on behalf of De Beers.
In 2013, the Gemological Institute of America examined the crystal and recorded it as the largest single-crystal natural diamond it had examined and reported on at that time.
The gemstone subsequently underwent cutting and polishing between 2022 and 2024.
The process transformed the enormous rough crystal into the finished 888.88-carat black diamond known as Infinity.
Years of Work Behind the Exceptional Gemstone
Transforming the rough diamond into its current form required careful planning and specialist craftsmanship.
Diamond Trading NV owner Daniel de Belder explained that the cutting approach was designed to respect the stone's natural features rather than remove them in pursuit of a conventional shape.
The diamond retains characteristics associated with the geological forces involved in its journey towards the Earth's surface.
Its final appearance reflects a balance between technical precision and the preservation of natural material.
The company currently owns the gemstone, although no confirmed valuation or sale announcement was disclosed at the event.
Dubai Strengthens Its Position in the Global Diamond Trade
The unveiling gave diamond professionals an opportunity to view a rare natural stone in person during a major industry gathering.
Dubai continues to attract international traders, manufacturers and investors through events that connect different parts of the diamond and jewellery supply chain.
The presentation of Infinity also drew attention to the importance of a gemstone's origin, rarity and craftsmanship in shaping its appeal.
Beyond its commercial significance, the diamond demonstrates how specialised cutting techniques can preserve the distinctive qualities of natural crystals.
Its debut adds another notable moment to Dubai's growing profile in the international diamond industry.
