Dubai's new World Trade Centre bridge: Roads connected, travel times and benefits

Dubai motorists will soon benefit from improved traffic flow around the World Trade Centre Roundabout as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) prepares to open the final bridge of its Dh696-million-plus development project on Friday, October 30, 2026.

The project aims to reduce congestion, shorten journey times and improve connectivity between some of the city's busiest roads and business districts.

Where Is Dubai’s New Bridge Located?

The new bridge is located at the World Trade Centre Roundabout, a major intersection connecting Sheikh Zayed Road with five key streets:

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street
Sheikh Rashid Street
2nd December Street
Za'abeel Palace Street
Al Majlis Street

The intersection serves motorists travelling between Dubai World Trade Centre, Downtown Dubai, the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Deira and nearby residential communities.

Which Roads Will the New Bridge Connect?

The final bridge is a 1-kilometre, two-lane structure connecting Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street.

According to the RTA, the bridge can accommodate approximately 3,000 vehicles per hour, offering motorists a more direct route between the two streets.

Its opening will complete the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, which includes five bridges spanning a combined length of approximately 5 kilometres.

How Much Time Will Motorists Save?

The new bridge is expected to reduce travel times and ease congestion around the busy intersection.

According to the RTA, the improvements will deliver the following benefits:

Travel time: Journeys from Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street will fall from six minutes to one minute.

Reduced delays: Average delays at the intersection will decrease from 12 minutes to around 90 seconds.

Improved traffic flow: Motorists will benefit from better connections between Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Mustaqbal Street, Sheikh Rashid Street and surrounding roads.

The new bridges will also reduce reliance on the former roundabout, allowing traffic to move more efficiently along major routes.

What Has Changed at World Trade Centre Roundabout?

The development project has transformed the former roundabout into a ground-level intersection supported by five bridges designed to improve traffic movement in different directions.

The main structures include:

Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street: A 1-kilometre, two-lane bridge towards Deira, with a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour.

Sheikh Rashid Street to 2nd December Street: Two bridges with two lanes in each direction, spanning a combined 2 kilometres and accommodating up to 6,000 vehicles per hour.

Al Majlis Street to 2nd December Street: Two bridges spanning a combined 2 kilometres, including the final bridge scheduled to open on October 30.

Together, these structures aim to improve traffic distribution and reduce bottlenecks at one of Dubai's important road intersections.

Which Dubai Roads and Neighbourhoods Will Benefit?

The project is expected to improve connectivity for motorists travelling between Jumeirah, Al Satwa, Dubai World Trade Centre, DIFC and Deira.

Nearby neighbourhoods that could benefit include:

Za'abeel
Al Satwa
Al Karama
Al Jafiliya
Al Makhoul

According to the RTA, the project is expected to serve more than 500,000 residents and visitors, including daily commuters and people attending exhibitions and events at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Why Are Roadworks Continuing Near the World Trade Centre?

Although the final bridge will complete the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, another major road improvement project remains underway nearby.

The Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project extends from the intersection with Za'abeel Palace Street to Financial Centre Street. It aims to increase road capacity and improve traffic movement through Dubai's business districts.

The project includes:

Widening Al Mustaqbal Street from three to four lanes in each direction.

Constructing bridges and tunnels spanning a combined 1.5 kilometres.

Increasing road capacity by 33%.

Reducing journey times from 13 minutes to six minutes.

When Will the Remaining Roadworks Be Completed?

The Al Mustaqbal Street Development Project is scheduled for completion in 2027.

Once completed, it will complement the new World Trade Centre bridges, improving connections between Dubai's business districts and surrounding residential communities.

These road upgrades form part of Dubai's wider efforts to accommodate
