Abu Dhabi Museums Bring Arabic Stories to Life for Young Readers

Abu Dhabi is introducing children to the joy of reading through a cultural initiative that combines Arabic storytelling with interactive activities.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre through the Kalima Reading Club, the “We Read for Children” programme features five events running from October 7 to November 28, 2026.

Designed for children aged 6 to 12, the initiative aims to make books more engaging while encouraging creativity, communication and a stronger connection with the Arabic language.

Storytelling Meets Museum Experiences

The programme brings reading sessions into cultural and natural attractions, allowing children to experience stories beyond traditional classrooms and libraries.

Two events took place at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi on October 7 and 10.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is scheduled to host a session with author Dr Fatima Al Mazrouei on October 31, followed by the programme’s closing event on November 28.

Another session is planned at Gracia Farm on November 15, offering families different settings in which to enjoy Arabic storytelling.

Encouraging Creativity and Arabic Language Skills

Alongside selected stories, children participate in discussions and hands-on workshops that help develop listening, expression and imaginative thinking.

The programme draws on books from the Centre’s Esdarat publishing programme and Kalima Project for Translation.

By making young readers active participants, the initiative seeks to turn reading into an enjoyable learning experience.

It also supports efforts to keep Arabic relevant to younger generations while helping children appreciate their language and cultural heritage.

Building a Stronger Reading Culture in the UAE

The initiative forms part of a wider community campaign promoting sustainable reading and supports the UAE’s focus on family and social development.

Organisers view early childhood as an important stage for nurturing curiosity, cultural awareness and lifelong learning.

By connecting books with museums, nature and creative activities, Abu Dhabi is working to make knowledge more accessible to families and inspire children to explore new ideas while maintaining a lasting connection with Arabic language and identity.
