Dubai Police have urged motorists to avoid driving when tired or sleepy following a truck accident on Emirates Road (E611). The incident occurred after the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a metal safety barrier.
The accident highlights the dangers of driving while fatigued and the importance of staying alert behind the wheel.
Truck Crashes into Safety Barrier on Emirates Road
According to Dubai Police, the accident took place on Emirates Road (E611), after the Dubai Flyover towards Abu Dhabi.
The truck driver reportedly became drowsy, lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road before hitting a metal safety barrier. The vehicle eventually came to a stop off the highway.
The driver sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene.
Dubai Police Explain the Dangers of Driving While Tired
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, warned that fatigue can significantly affect a driver's concentration, alertness and ability to respond to unexpected situations.
He explained that tiredness can slow reaction times and affect decision-making, increasing the chances of losing control, drifting out of a lane or colliding with other vehicles and roadside barriers.
He also highlighted that even a few seconds of lost concentration can lead to serious road accidents.
Motorists Urged to Recognise Signs of Fatigue
Dubai Police have advised motorists to get sufficient rest before starting their journeys, particularly when travelling long distances that require continuous concentration.
Drivers should also:
-
Stop at a safe location as soon as they feel tired or sleepy.
-
Avoid continuing their journey when experiencing fatigue.
-
Stay within their designated traffic lanes.
-
Follow road safety instructions and traffic regulations.
-
Remain attentive to changing road and traffic conditions.
-
Get adequate sleep before driving.
Police stressed that recognising the early signs of tiredness and taking timely breaks can help prevent accidents and protect lives.
Dubai Police Promote Road Safety Awareness Through Aman Roads
Dubai Police have encouraged motorists and other road users to visit their road safety awareness platform, Aman Roads, which provides educational resources, safety guidance and information about dangerous driving behaviours.
The initiative aims to improve public awareness of traffic risks and encourage responsible driving habits.
Road Safety Awareness Can Help Prevent Accidents
Dubai Police continue to emphasise the importance of responsible driving and following road safety practices. Avoiding drowsy driving, maintaining concentration and getting enough rest before travelling are essential steps towards reducing traffic accidents.
Motorists are reminded that reaching their destinations safely is more important than continuing a journey when they are exhausted.
