Dubai Motorists Rush To Fill Up Ahead Of October Fuel Hike

Dubai motorists rushed to petrol stations on Wednesday after learning that fuel prices in the emirate would rise from October 1, 2026.

Some drivers waited for more than 20 minutes, while others adjusted their routines to fill up before the new prices came into effect.

Many drivers took to the roads after learning that petrol and diesel prices would increase significantly in October.

As a result, motorists flocked to petrol stations to fill their vehicles before the higher rates began.

New Petrol And Diesel Rates In October 2026

  • Super 98: Dh4.40 per litre, previously Dh3.80
  • Special 95: Dh4.28 per litre, previously Dh3.69
  • E-Plus 91: Dh4.21 per litre, previously Dh3.61
  • Diesel: Dh4.80 per litre, previously Dh4.30

The new fuel rates are the highest recorded in the UAE in 2026 so far.

Many Drivers Rush To Refuel Ahead Of October 1

Following the announcement of higher fuel prices, motorists across Dubai were seen heading to petrol stations to refuel before the new rates took effect.

Some drivers made additional trips to petrol stations to avoid the expected evening rush, while others changed their schedules to fill their vehicles before October 1.

For motorists with larger vehicles or those who travel frequently, filling up before the price increase could help reduce their fuel expenses.

The amount saved depends on factors such as the vehicle's tank capacity, fuel type and quantity purchased.

Businesses Also Rush To Save On Fuel Costs

Businesses operating multiple vehicles are also expected to feel the impact of the higher fuel prices.

A tourism company in Dubai, for example, planned to refuel all 60 vehicles in its fleet before the fuel price revision.

The company estimated that doing so could help it save more than Dh3,000.

Why Are UAE Fuel Prices Rising?

Petrol and diesel prices in the UAE are reviewed every month and are influenced by international oil prices.

Global oil prices remained high during September, contributing to the increase in fuel rates in the UAE.

Brent crude oil traded above $100 a barrel for much of September, reaching a peak of $102.63 per barrel.

Supply disruptions caused by severe weather in parts of North America and Asia also influenced global oil markets.

UAE petrol and diesel prices had declined slightly in July before rising again in August and September.

The Impact Of The Fuel Hike On Drivers

The increase in fuel prices is expected to affect motorists differently.

Frequent drivers, people who travel long distances and households with multiple vehicles may face higher monthly fuel expenses.

Drivers of larger vehicles that consume more fuel may also see a bigger increase in their spending.

Similarly, people who rely on their cars for daily commuting could notice a greater impact on their regular budgets.

The overall effect will depend on several factors, including the distance travelled, vehicle efficiency, fuel type, tank size and frequency of use.

With the October fuel rates taking effect on Thursday, September 30 was an important day for motorists looking to refuel at the lower September prices.
