UAE Job Experience Certificate: How Employees Can Get One for Free

UAE Employees Have the Right to Request an Experience Certificate

Employees leaving a job in the UAE can request an official experience certificate from their employer to document their employment history.

Under Article 13, Clause 11 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, employers must provide this document when an employment contract ends and the worker requests it.

The certificate must be issued free of charge.

It also cannot contain information that could damage an employee’s reputation or reduce their chances of finding another job.

The document can be useful when applying for new positions or verifying previous work experience.

What Information Must the Certificate Include?

UAE Labour Law specifies the key details that must appear on an experience certificate.

These include the employee’s joining date, final working date and total period of service.

It must also mention the job title or type of work performed, the last salary received and the reason the employment contract ended.

These details help future employers understand a candidate’s professional background.

Employees should check the information carefully to ensure that their employment records are accurate.

How to Obtain an Experience Certificate Through MOHRE

Workers can request the certificate directly from their former employer or use the digital services offered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

Through the MOHRE mobile application, employees can access their employment history certificate.

The document can be downloaded and shared electronically.

According to the ministry, the digital certificate remains valid for one month.

Employers can verify its authenticity through the official verification service by entering the letter number printed on the document.

Is an Experience Certificate Compulsory for New Job Applications?

An experience certificate is not a general legal requirement for every job application in the UAE.

However, some companies may request it during recruitment or background checks to confirm a candidate’s previous employment.

It can also help workers maintain an official record of their career history when changing employers.

Employees who need the document should contact their company's HR department when their contract ends.

Having an updated employment record can make future job applications and employment verification easier.
