RTA completes road repairs on E311, E611, 3 other routes

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed road repairs and maintenance works covering 20 kilometres across five major routes in the emirate. The maintenance programme included key highways such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) and Emirates Road (E611).

The work was carried out along the slow lanes of major roads as part of RTA's annual preventive maintenance programme. Other routes covered included Lehbab Road, Dubai–Al Ain Road and Al Rebat Street.

Five Major Roads Covered Under RTA's Maintenance Programme

The latest maintenance work focused on improving road conditions and ensuring safer journeys for motorists across Dubai.

On Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, repairs covered sections in both directions towards Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

The maintenance work on Lehbab Road included the free-flow lane used by motorists travelling from Al Ain towards Lehbab. It also covered turning lanes at the Jebel Ali–Lehbab interchange.

According to RTA, the programme aims to maintain road quality, preserve traffic capacity and improve safety for all road users.

RTA Uses Laser and AI Technology to Inspect Roads

As part of its preventive maintenance strategy, RTA uses advanced technologies, including laser systems and artificial intelligence (AI), to inspect roads and identify areas that require attention.

Rather than waiting for visible road damage, the authority conducts regular inspections throughout the year to detect problems early and plan necessary repairs.

Nabeel Mohammed, Director of Roads and Facilities Maintenance at RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, explained that the authority follows a proactive approach to assessing road conditions and scheduling maintenance.

He said laser and AI technologies help identify road defects, including cracks and potholes, allowing the authority to prioritise maintenance work.

The information collected through these inspections helps RTA determine which road sections require repairs and when maintenance should take place.

How Does RTA Manage Traffic During Road Repairs?

RTA plans traffic diversions during maintenance work to minimise disruption and maintain smooth traffic movement.

According to the authority, diversion arrangements are based on comprehensive studies and follow international best practices to ensure the safety of motorists while repair work is underway.

Nabeel Mohammed also encouraged drivers to remain cautious when travelling through maintenance zones.

Motorists are advised to:

  • Follow directional and temporary road signs.

  • Reduce speed when approaching maintenance areas.

  • Stay alert when driving through traffic diversions.

  • Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

  • Follow instructions provided by traffic authorities.

These precautions help protect both motorists and road maintenance workers.

RTA Completes Annual Preventive Road Maintenance Plan

The completion of the 20km maintenance programme marks another step in RTA's efforts to maintain Dubai's road infrastructure.

Regular inspections and preventive repairs help preserve road conditions, reduce the risk of further damage and support efficient traffic movement across the emirate.

As Dubai's road network continues to expand, RTA's use of advanced inspection technologies and planned maintenance schedules will remain important in maintaining safe and reliable journeys for residents and visitors.
