Google launches Gemini 4 Carbon AI model with cybersecurity focus

Alphabet's Google unveiled Gemini 4 Carbon on Wednesday, introducing its latest frontier AI model as competition with OpenAI and Anthropic intensifies in coding and cybersecurity.

The launch comes two weeks after the company introduced Gemini 4 Argon. With Carbon, Google is expanding its Gemini family of AI models to serve developers and enterprise customers seeking more advanced coding and engineering capabilities.

Gemini 4 Carbon Targets Advanced Cybersecurity Tasks

Google said Gemini 4 Carbon delivers state-of-the-art performance across several cybersecurity tasks, including vulnerability discovery, exploitation and software patching.

The model is designed to help cybersecurity professionals identify software weaknesses, assess potential vulnerabilities and develop fixes to improve system security.

Google is positioning Carbon as a tool for handling demanding technical challenges that require advanced reasoning and sustained engineering work.

Model Generates More Secure Code

According to Google, Gemini 4 Carbon generates secure code at more than twice the success rate of Gemini 4 Argon on the company's internal benchmarks.

This improvement highlights Google's focus on developing AI systems that can support software development while helping address security risks.

The model is also designed to manage complex, long-running engineering and coding tasks, making it relevant to developers working on demanding software projects.

Limited Initial Access Through Google's Fairwind Program

Google is initially making Gemini 4 Carbon available to a selected group of cybersecurity defenders through its Fairwind Program.

The limited rollout allows the company to continue testing the model's safeguards as it evaluates its capabilities in sensitive cybersecurity applications.

This approach reflects the importance of balancing advanced AI capabilities with measures designed to prevent misuse, particularly when models can assist with vulnerability discovery and exploitation.

Gemini 4 Carbon Pricing and Availability

Google has set Gemini 4 Carbon's introductory pricing at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, matching the initial pricing of Gemini 4 Argon.

The model's initial availability is restricted to selected cybersecurity defenders, with Google continuing to assess its safeguards.

As competition in AI development grows, Gemini 4 Carbon represents Google's latest effort to advance coding performance, software security and complex engineering automation.
