Dubai Introduces New Shared Housing Rules; Families and Individuals Banned From Mixing

Dubai Salik Toll Timings – When Can Motorists Pay Nothing?

Dubai motorists can avoid Salik toll charges during certain hours, giving drivers an opportunity to plan their journeys and reduce their road expenses.

Salik charges depend on the time a vehicle passes through a toll gate.

While peak periods carry higher charges, motorists can save money by travelling during less busy hours and can also benefit from toll-free passage during specific overnight periods.

When Are Dubai Salik Gates Free?

Under the current pricing structure, Salik gates operate throughout the day, while the amount motorists pay depends on the time they pass through a toll gate.

Monday to Saturday

Motorists are charged Dh6 for passing through a Salik gate during peak periods, which run from 6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm.

The off-peak toll is Dh4 and applies to crossings made between 10am and 4pm and from 8pm to 1am.

The overnight period from 1am to 6am is toll-free, allowing motorists to pass through Salik gates without paying a road charge.

Sunday Salik Charges

The standard Salik charge on Sunday is Dh4, although different arrangements may apply during public holidays or special events.

Motorists can also travel through Salik gates without paying between 1am and 6am on Sunday.

Salik Timings During Ramadan

Dubai's Salik pricing structure changes during Ramadan to reflect changes in traffic patterns and daily travel routines.

Ramadan Peak and Off-Peak Hours

During Ramadan, the peak Salik charge of Dh6 applies from 9am to 5pm on weekdays.

The off-peak charge of Dh4 applies between 7am and 9am and again from 5pm to 2am.

Motorists can avoid the toll completely between 2am and 7am during Ramadan.

How the Salik One-Hour Rule Can Save Drivers Money

Certain Salik gates that are located close to each other have a one-hour rule designed to prevent motorists from being charged twice when they pass through two eligible gates in the same direction within the specified period.

Al Mamzar Gates

If a driver passes through both the Al Mamzar North and Al Mamzar South gates in the same direction within one hour, the driver is charged only once.

Al Safa Gates

The same rule applies to the Al Safa North and Al Safa South gates. Motorists passing through both gates in the same direction within one hour are charged only once.

The one-hour rule can also apply when motorists travel between the Al Mamzar gates and Al Safa gates, or in the opposite direction, provided the journey meets the applicable conditions.

What Is Salik?

Salik is Dubai's electronic road toll system, covering major roads and key routes across the emirate.

Instead of stopping at a traditional toll booth, vehicles are automatically identified as they pass beneath a Salik gate.

The applicable toll is then deducted from the vehicle's Salik account.

What Drivers Need to Do

Motorists using Dubai's toll roads need to have an active Salik tag linked to their account and ensure that sufficient funds are available.

The electronic system allows vehicles to pass through toll gates without stopping, helping traffic continue moving even on busy roads.
