Saudi Leadership Offers Condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid on Death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman have extended their condolences to UAE Vice President and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum following the passing of his brother, Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Saudi Arabia’s leadership has expressed its sympathy to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, following the death of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud sent a cable of condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, conveying his sincere sympathies to the Dubai Ruler and the family of the deceased.

Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud also sent a separate condolence message, expressing sympathy to Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Ahmed’s family and praying for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased.

The messages underline the close relations between the leaderships of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and come amid condolences from leaders and officials following Sheikh Ahmed’s passing.

Dubai Declares 10 Days of Mourning

Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026.

The Dubai Ruler’s Court announced a 10-day period of official mourning, with flags across the emirate to be flown at half-mast throughout the mourning period.
The UAE Presidential Court also offered its condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid and the Al Maktoum family.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Sheikh Ahmed was the younger brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and was 76 at the time of his death.

Over the years, he held a number of roles in Dubai’s public, business and sporting sectors, including serving as Deputy Chairman of Dubai Police and Public Security. He was also closely associated with Al Wasl Sports Club.

Tributes from UAE, Gulf and international leaders have highlighted his contribution to Dubai and the wider UAE.

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman joined those offering prayers and condolences to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the Al Maktoum family and the people of the UAE during the period of mourning.
