UAE-India IndiGo flights to cost more: How much extra will passengers pay?
Passengers travelling between the UAE and India on IndiGo could pay more for their tickets after the airline revised its fuel surcharge from October 6.
Travel agents said the increase will not affect every passenger by the same amount. While the fuel surcharge has increased, the final ticket price continues to depend on factors such as the base fare, travel date, demand and available seats.
Passengers Could Pay Around Dh200 More
Travel agents estimate that the overall increase could be around Dh200 per passenger on some journeys, although the exact amount will vary depending on the booking.
Bharath Aidasani, managing partner at Pluto Travels, said the additional cost could become more noticeable for families travelling together.
For example, a family of four could potentially pay around Dh800 more if each ticket rises by Dh200.
For individual travellers, however, the increase may appear relatively small.
Why IndiGo Fares Vary Between Passengers
Airline ticket prices can change frequently, meaning passengers travelling on the same UAE-India route may not necessarily pay the same fare.
Taha Siddique, manager at Siddique Travels, said the fuel component has increased, but the final amount paid by passengers can still vary because the base fare changes according to the route, travel date and demand.
As a result, two passengers booking the same route on different days could see significantly different ticket prices.
Travel agents therefore advised passengers to focus on the final ticket price rather than assuming the fuel surcharge increase will affect every fare equally.
South India Routes Could See Greater Impact
Passengers travelling to destinations in South India could feel the impact more strongly on some routes, particularly where fewer seats are available.
Aidasani said there has been a reduction in flight frequencies on some routes, resulting in lower seat availability.
With strong demand and fewer seats, ticket prices can increase more quickly. Travel agents expect this situation could continue for some time, although flight availability may change in the future.
Families Could Face Higher Travel Costs
The impact of the revised surcharge could become more significant for families travelling together, especially during peak periods.
Subair Thekepurathvalappil of Wisefox Travel and Tourism said the increase may not appear substantial for one passenger, but the additional cost can add up when several family members are travelling.
For a family travelling both ways, the total increase could be considerably higher. Passengers travelling during periods of strong demand could feel the impact further because fares may already be elevated.
Travel agents said it is too early to determine how passengers will respond to the revised fuel surcharge.
The change has only recently taken effect, and agents have not yet seen significant complaints.
Most passengers generally focus on the total ticket price rather than looking separately at individual components such as fuel surcharges.
How Long Will Higher Fares Last?
It remains difficult to predict how long ticket prices will remain elevated.
According to travel agents, fares will continue to depend on several factors, including passenger demand, seat availability and flight frequency.
Passengers planning UAE-India travel may therefore benefit from comparing fares and booking ahead, particularly when travelling with several family members or during busy travel periods.
