The Japan Meteorological Agency reported a total of 21 earthquakes with a magnitude above 4.0 striking the country. Among them was a significant 7.5 earthquake that led to a series of tsunami warnings. The initial tsunami waves, some exceeding one meter in height, reached the north coast of central Japan after the seismic activity. Wajima port in Ishikawa prefecture experienced waves as high as 1.2 meters at 4:21 pm local time.

The affected areas include the Toyama, Ishikawa, and Niigata prefectures on the Sea of Japan side of Honshu, Japan's main island.
