Sharjah Dates Festival Welcomes More Than 1.13 Million Visitors

The 11th Souq Al Jubail Dates Festival in Sharjah has concluded after a three-month season, attracting more than 1.131 million visitors, according to the Emirates News Agency. The event brought shoppers together around fresh dates, seasonal produce and the UAE’s date-growing traditions.

Dates retailers based at Souq Al Jubail took part alongside outside exhibitors, giving visitors a broad choice of locally produced varieties. The festival also offered traders a chance to reach more customers

during the harvest season and helped draw attention to the different dates grown in the UAE.

Among the varieties promoted at the start of the season were Khalas, Barhi, Khunaizi, Lulu and Shishi. Abdullah Al Shamsi, Senior Manager at Sharjah Markets, said the turnout reflected demand for local products and helped support commercial activity at the market.

The festival is one of Souq Al Jubail’s seasonal events. The market is a project of Sharjah Asset Management, the investment arm of the Government of Sharjah. Its dates event combines shopping with a showcase of the produce and food traditions associated with the UAE’s harvest season.
