The UAE's aviation authority has granted operational approval for the country's first vertiport, a significant milestone in advancing autonomous transportation. Vertiports, facilitating vertical takeoff and landing of flying vehicles, will serve as vital hubs for passenger services and battery charging. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, emphasized the commitment to accelerating advanced air mobility, laying the groundwork for safe and efficient vertiport integration into urban infrastructure. This achievement was announced at the DRIFTx event in Abu Dhabi, showcasing the latest advancements in autonomous transportation. Supported by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and the Emirate's Smart & Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) cluster, the vertiport aims to position Abu Dhabi as a leader in smart mobility solutions. The collaborative effort between the GCAA and key stakeholders underscores the UAE's commitment to fostering innovation in transportation. This milestone builds upon the foundation laid by the world's first national regulation on vertiports introduced by the GCAA in March 2023.
