Who can apply for the new 10-year Blue Residency visa that the UAE has announced?
Green technology and improving air quality are two relevant areas.

Environmentalists can now apply for permanent residency in the United Arab Emirates. A 10-year green card, or "Blue Residency," will be offered to those who have shown "exceptional contributions and efforts" to preserving the planet.

All sustainability efforts, whether in or out of the UAE, are covered here.

Recipients of global awards, "distinguished" environmental activists and researchers, and members of international companies, associations, and NGOs are all eligible to apply for the Blue Residency.

Applying is easy for those who meet the requirements because the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security has done the heavy lifting. Nominations for the long-term residency can also be made by relevant authorities.

During a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, stated, "The sustainability of our economy has become linked to the sustainability of our environment."

The country has launched a number of programs to celebrate 2024 as the year of sustainability, including the new residency scheme. The country's invitation to citizens to participate in the collective endeavors to embrace sustainable practices last year dominated green themes, which led to the extension of the sustainability drive into 2024.

The standard residency visa issued by the UAE is valid for two years. Investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, exceptional students and graduates, and pioneers in humanitarian work are among those who are eligible for the Golden Visa program, which the country introduced in 2019. Three years down the road, the government unveiled green visas, a form of residency that allows qualified professionals, independent contractors, investors, and entrepreneurs to stay for five years.
