Sheikha Hala bint Duaij Al Khalifa, the wife of Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, has passed away, the official Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported on Sunday.

The couple had four children including Sheikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa (who is second in line to the throne after his father) and Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

“With full belief in Allah’s willpower, the Royal Court mourns Her Highness Sheikha Hala bint Duaij Al Khalifa,” a statement from the Royal Court said.

Sheikha Hala was known for her charity work and also launched an anti-child abuse programme in Bahrain in the past.

UAE leaders including President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent condolence messages to Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, official UAE news agency WAM reported.
