Saudi Arabia has announced a midday work ban will begin on June 15.

Saudi Arabia has announced a midday work ban will begin on June 15.

The Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD) announced the ban on an effort to protect the safety and health of workers operating in direct sunlight during the hottest times of the day.

The ban extends to all private-sector companies.

Saudi Midday Work Ban

The Ministry announcement prevents work under the sun:

From 12pm to 3pm
Between June 15 and September 15
The MHRSD will impose the ban with the support of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health.

The Ministry emphasised the importance of employers organising working shifts accordingly and giving workers a safe environment. 

If has urged members of the public to report any observed violations of a midday work ban in Saudi Arabia to call customer service representatives on 19911.

The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) had earlier called for a ban on working under the sun and in open places during the summer months, where the heat is at its peak.

The UAE ban will be in effect daily from 12:30 PM until 3:00 PM, starting June 15 and ending on September 15, 2023.
