In a groundbreaking move aimed at enhancing road safety, authorities in Dubai are set to introduce a sophisticated robot designed to detect violations committed by users of bicycles and electric scooters. Scheduled for trial from March onward, this innovative surveillance tool powered by artificial intelligence promises to revolutionize the monitoring of cycling and e-scooter activities across the city.

Equipped with advanced technology, the robot will be tasked with identifying a range of violations, including failure to comply with safety protocols such as wearing helmets, unauthorized parking of scooters, riding in pedestrian-only zones, and the unlawful presence of multiple users on e-scooters. These violations, punishable by fines of up to Dh300, will be swiftly identified and reported by the robot in collaboration with the Dubai Police.

What sets this robot apart is its remarkable accuracy, boasting an identification rate of over 85%. Moreover, it can transmit data within a mere 5 seconds and has an impressive surveillance range of up to 2 kilometers. Engineered to operate efficiently in diverse weather conditions, the robot prioritizes safety, automatically halting its movement upon detecting any object or individual within a 1.5-meter radius.

The trial phase will kick off in the Jumeirah 3 beach area, allowing authorities to assess the robot's effectiveness and potential impact on improving road safety. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with Terminus Group, a leading provider of robotics and advanced technical systems, to spearhead this initiative. The collaboration was formalized through an agreement signed during the Mena Transport Congress and Exhibition 2024, underscoring the commitment of both entities to innovate for safer roads.

This initiative comes in response to the growing concerns surrounding the safety of cyclists and e-scooter users on Dubai's roads. With the increasing popularity of these modes of transportation, ensuring compliance with traffic regulations and safety guidelines has become paramount. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, authorities aim to curb violations effectively and promote responsible usage of bicycles and e-scooters.

In addition to its surveillance capabilities, the robot serves as a testament to Dubai's commitment to embracing technological advancements to address contemporary challenges. By harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and robotics, the city continues to position itself as a global leader in innovation and smart city development.

Furthermore, the introduction of this robot aligns with Dubai's broader vision of enhancing road safety and promoting sustainable modes of transportation. As the city strives to create a more pedestrian-friendly environment and reduce reliance on private vehicles, initiatives like these play a crucial role in fostering a culture of safety and responsibility among road users.

Looking ahead, the success of the trial phase is expected to pave the way for the widespread adoption of similar technologies across Dubai and beyond. By harnessing the potential of robotics and artificial intelligence, authorities can proactively address road safety challenges and create safer, more efficient transportation systems for all residents and visitors alike.
