More than Dh5,000 fine for wearing burqa in this country

Fine for wearing burqa in Denmark

The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates Copenhagen in Denmark just posted an advisory on its official twitter account UAE Embassy Dk.

The advisory reads, "The UAE embassy would like to inform its citizens that the Kingdom of Denmark has officially passed the law banning the wearing of niqab or burqa, or all face coverings, hats, masks, or fake beards."

"The law which will be coming into effect on August 1, will fine all violators Kr1,000 (Dh576) for the first three offenses, and Kr10,000 (Dh5,767) for the fourth offense."

"As per the information given above, the embassy would request from its citizens to be aware of the law when visiting the Kingdom starting from August 1.

"Wishing you all a pleasant stay."

This follows the announcement made last Thursday as the latest European country to ban the Islamic full-face veil in public spaces.
