The angry man allegedly chided the boy and broke his mobile phone.

A man has stood trial at the Fujairah Misdemeanour Court for breaking his minor son's mobile phone.

Court records showed that the man used to have heated arguments with his wife, which led to their separation. The mother won the custody of their children, including the son involved in the case. The Shariah court permitted the father to see and check on his children during scheduled visits.

In one of these visits, the father got upset while checking the phone of his son. He reportedly found a number of "unacceptable friends, including a girl", in his son's Facebook account.

The angry man allegedly chided the boy and broke his mobile phone.

The mother, in turn, felt sorry for her son and lodged a complaint against his father at the Fujairah Police. She accused her former husband of assaulting her son and breaking his phone.

The Fujairah Public Prosecution then referred the case to the court.

The defense lawyer told the court that the father was only disciplining his child. He was the one who bought the cell phone for his son, the lawyer pointed out.

The court adjourned the case to a later date for the verdict.
