How teachers handled online classes amid heavy rainfalls, thunderstorms

Navigating remote learning amid heavy rainfall and thunderstorms posed a unique set of challenges for teachers in the UAE. As schools transitioned to online classes on Tuesday, educators had to quickly adapt their teaching strategies to ensure continuity in learning despite the adverse weather conditions.

With circulars sent out to parents the previous evening, the transition to remote learning was swift, necessitated by the anticipated weather disruptions. Teachers faced the task of effectively communicating with their students while navigating various online platforms and managing potential distractions in their home environments.

Michelle Thomas, Principal/CEO of Al Barsha National School, emphasized the challenges encountered by both teachers and students throughout the day. Teachers had to adapt lesson plans on the fly, ensuring effective communication, while students grappled with online platforms and potential distractions at home.

Late evening sessions held by teachers allowed for collaborative planning, ensuring clear guidelines for the teaching staff. IT support teams played a crucial role in facilitating the transition to remote learning, actively engaging to address any technical issues.

At Al Barsha National School, students followed a structured schedule with a combination of synchronous and asynchronous lessons. Each session began with a live lesson input, followed by independent activities. This structured approach helped maintain engagement and continuity in learning despite the shift to virtual classrooms.

Principals emphasized the importance of effective communication and flexibility in navigating remote learning challenges. Rashmi Nandkeolyar, Principal and Director of DPS, highlighted the school's agility in leveraging online teaching platforms established during the pandemic to facilitate seamless learning experiences.

However, the absence of physical classrooms and face-to-face interactions posed challenges for some students in staying focused and motivated. A collective sense of community and collaboration among students, parents, and educators played a crucial role in overcoming these challenges, ensuring that learning continued uninterrupted despite the adverse weather conditions.

As schools in the UAE navigate the complexities of remote learning amidst unpredictable weather patterns, the resilience and adaptability of teachers and students alike continue to be tested. Despite the challenges, the commitment to education remains unwavering, with stakeholders working together to ensure that every student receives a quality learning experience, regardless of external circumstances.
