Starting from February 10, 2024, Flydubai will commence flights to Penang International Airport (PEN) and Langkawi International Airport (LGK). The route to Langkawi will include a brief stop in Penang, providing travelers from the UAE and the Middle East with convenient travel options through Dubai's aviation hub.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of Flydubai, expressed his enthusiasm for expanding the airline's presence in Southeast Asia with these new flights. He emphasized the importance of flights from the UAE to these sought-after holiday destinations for both tourism and business connections. Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia are known for their cultural diversity, leisure activities, and investment opportunities, making them appealing to passengers not only from the UAE but also from the GCC and European markets.

With this launch, Flydubai's Southeast Asia network will expand to four destinations, including its operations to Krabi and Pattaya in Thailand. The airline plans to utilize its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on these Malaysian routes, offering lie-flat seats in Business Class and an enhanced travel experience in Economy Class.

Sudhir Sreedharan, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations (UAE, GCC, Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent) at Flydubai, emphasized the significance of the Malaysian market for the airline and expressed satisfaction that these flights are becoming a reality. He expects the daily service to be popular among passengers from across the network and to provide convenient travel options for passengers from Malaysia to Dubai and beyond.

Langkawi is famous for its pristine beaches, lush rainforests, and striking geological formations. Visitors can enjoy activities such as island hopping, cable car rides to the Sky Bridge, and exploring the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park. The duty-free status of the island makes it a shopping paradise.

Penang, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Orient," offers a rich cultural blend of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and British influences. Its UNESCO-listed George Town is renowned for its historic architecture, vibrant street art, and delectable street food.

In addition to these Malaysian destinations, Flydubai has also announced the launch of operations to three other new destinations: Cairo, Egypt, with flights starting on October 28; Poznan, Poland, with flights commencing on October 29; and Mombasa, Kenya, joining its expanding network on January 17, 2024.

Passengers interested in flying to Penang and Langkawi can take advantage of competitive fares, with return Business Class fares starting from Dh11,000 and Economy Class Lite fares from Dh2,700 to Penang, and return fares to Langkawi starting from Dh11,000 for Business Class and Dh3,500 for Economy Class Lite.
