LINQ, a subsidiary of ALEC Engineering and Contracting, has announced a new modular construction license from the Dubai Municipality.

This license allows LINQ to commence the execution of a pilot project for a G+6 building using highly sustainable and customised modular units.

Dubai Municipality’s commitment to advanced construction

The approval is part of Dubai Municipality’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices and making Dubai one of the world’s most advanced cities, a statement by LINQ said.

The initial system approval was granted during a ceremony held at LINQ’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Dubai Industrial City.

The event was attended by officials from Dubai Municipality, top executives from the Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), ALEC, LINQ, and other stakeholders.

The granting of this license is significant for LINQ as it positions the company as a pioneer in advanced construction techniques such as modular construction, the statement said.

Eng. Ahmed Al Salami, Principle Research and Building Studies at Dubai Municipality, stressed on the importance of modular construction in rapidly producing high-quality buildings that cater to various sectors, from hospitality to residential and commercial developments.

“The introduction of this paradigm will translate to the more rapid and controlled production of high-quality buildings which can meet the needs of a wide range of stakeholders, from the hospitality sector to residential developments and even commercial developments like malls and offices,” he said.

According to a report by McKinsey & Co, modular construction offers several advantages, including a 50 percent reduction in construction time and a 20 percent decrease in costs.

By embracing sustainable practices and employing Building Information Modelling (BIM) software, LINQ ensures precision-built structures that minimise waste and prioritise sustainability.

LINQ’s manufacturing facility in Dubai Industrial City, spanning 300,000 sq ft, will serve as the production hub for these modular units.

With a workforce of 1,000 employees, the facility has the capacity to produce 1,900 units annually.

Bashar Kayali, General Manager at LINQ Modular, commended the Dubai government’s vision for construction innovation and expressed LINQ’s commitment to showcasing the potential of modular construction in Dubai’s residential and commercial projects.

“At LINQ, we are honoured to be the first organisation to be awarded this license and get an opportunity to showcase the viability of modular construction for both residential and commercial projects in Dubai,” Kayali said.
