The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is bracing itself for turbulent weather as heavy rainfall and potential hailstorms loom over Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. Dr. Ahmed Habib, an expert at the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), has warned residents to prepare for unsettled conditions over the next 48 hours.

According to Dr. Habib, the UAE is currently experiencing convective cloud formation, signaling the onset of significant rainfall. He emphasized the likelihood of not only heavy rainfall but also the possibility of hailstorms in various parts of the country. Already, certain areas along the coast have reported light to heavy rainfall, with weather conditions expected to deteriorate further by evening.

Strong thunderclouds accompanied by powerful winds are forecasted to envelop the region, notably reducing visibility, particularly in eastern areas. Abu Dhabi has already encountered wind speeds reaching an alarming 1000km/hr.

Dr. Habib highlighted the occurrence of two waves of unstable weather. The first wave, currently underway, is expected to persist until Tuesday morning. Subsequently, a new wave will emerge from the western region and progress towards Abu Dhabi, gradually extending to northern and eastern areas, including Al Ain, by Tuesday afternoon and evening.

The influence of a low-pressure system, akin to the one impacting Oman, is contributing to the erratic weather in the UAE. While both countries are affected by the same system, variations in topography result in differing intensities of rainfall and cloud cover. Oman's extensive Hajar mountain ranges contribute to increased cloud cover and rainfall compared to the UAE.

With thunderstorms forecasted in various parts of the country, residents, particularly motorists, are urged to exercise caution due to the possibility of heavy rainfall and waterlogging. Flooding is anticipated in Wadi areas, with potential landslides occurring in mountainous regions.

In response to the anticipated weather conditions, the Ras Al Khaimah Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Team has decided to transition schools to remote learning for two days, Tuesday and Wednesday. Additionally, the RAK Public Services Department has temporarily closed all parks and beaches within the city until further notice.

As evening approaches, the situation is expected to escalate further. Unstable weather conditions will intensify from western areas towards Abu Dhabi and the northern and eastern regions. This escalation will be characterized by an increase in convective clouds, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a potential for hail in certain areas.

In conclusion, residents of the UAE are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety amidst the impending unstable weather conditions. With careful planning and vigilance, individuals can navigate through this challenging weather period with resilience and preparedness.
