Etihad to Seek Legal Advice After Premier League Findings on Manchester City

Etihad Airways is considering its legal options after the Premier League published findings concerning Manchester City's financial affairs.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline, an established club sponsor since 2009, has strongly rejected any suggestion of its involvement in improper commercial arrangements.

The development follows an independent commission's findings that Manchester City breached Premier League financial rules across a nine-season period.

The club has rejected the findings and said it intends to appeal.

Etihad Rejects Any Involvement

Etihad said it had reviewed the commission's published opinion and the Premier League's public statements.

The airline expressed concern that the findings could have negative implications for the company, despite Etihad not being named in the redacted published decision.

The airline also said the Premier League did not consult or contact it during the commission process.

Airline Says It Was Not Given Opportunity to Respond

According to Etihad, it was not given an opportunity to provide relevant information or address material that could have affected how the company was viewed in relation to the case.

The airline also raised concerns about the way the findings were communicated publicly, pointing to what it described as a lack of clarity and transparency.

Manchester City Plans Appeal

Manchester City has rejected the Premier League's conclusions and said it intends to use the available appeal process.

The club stated that it believes there are significant errors in the commission's findings and plans to challenge the decision.

The independent commission found Manchester City guilty of serious breaches involving commercial arrangements, financial reporting and spending regulations between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons.

Etihad Maintains Support for Manchester City

Despite its concerns about the Premier League's handling of the matter, Etihad reaffirmed its long-standing relationship with Manchester City.

The airline said it continues to maintain its commitment to the club, its supporters and the wider partnership as Manchester City moves forward with its appeal process.

What Happens Next?

Etihad is expected to seek legal counsel to determine what options may be available to protect its interests.

Meanwhile, Manchester City faces the next stage of its appeal against the Premier League commission's conclusions.

The Premier League has not commented on Etihad's statement.
