Dubai Set to Host Crucial SailGP Event Ahead of US$2 Million Grand Final

Dubai is set to play a vital role in the 2026 SailGP season as the world's leading sailing teams prepare to return to the UAE for a major penultimate event.

The Emirates Dubai Sail Grand Prix, presented by DP World, will take place on November 21 and 22, with teams battling for valuable championship points ahead of the season-ending decider in Abu Dhabi the following weekend.

Dubai Race Could Decide Final Grand Final Spot

All 13 national teams are set to compete in Dubai, but much of the attention will be on the battle for the final qualification place in the Grand Final.

Two teams have already secured their places in the season-ending showdown.

The BONDS Flying Roos lead the championship standings with 94 points, while Los Gallos sit second on 78 points after securing qualification following their victory in Geneva.

With only one qualification spot remaining, several teams will arrive in Dubai separated by just a handful of points.

Artemis Holds Advantage in Tight Championship Battle

Artemis SailGP Team currently occupy third place with 59 points, narrowly ahead of the U.S. SailGP Team on 56 points.

Emirates GBR are also within reach with 53 points.

The battle for the final qualification position could intensify in Dubai, where every point could prove important as teams attempt to move into the top three and secure a place in the Grand Final.

Several Teams Still in Contention

The fight for the remaining Grand Final spot extends beyond the current top three.

DS Automobiles SailGP Team France, NorthStar, ROCKWOOL Racing and Switzerland remain mathematically capable of breaking into the qualification positions.

Germany, Red Bull Italy, Mubadala Brazil and the Black Foils, however, have already been eliminated from contention for the Grand Final.

Dubai Conditions Could Influence the Racing

Weather conditions are expected to play an important role when the high-speed F50 boats take to Dubai's waters.

November is generally a relatively calm month in the UAE, with temperatures around 30°C.

While these conditions can be suitable for foiling, lighter winds could force teams to make tactical adjustments during the races.

Narrow Racecourse Adds Another Challenge

The city-side racecourse is expected to provide an additional test for the teams.

Its narrow layout could keep the boats closely grouped, increasing the importance of positioning, tactics and quick decision-making throughout the races.

US$2 Million Prize Awaits Season Champion

The stakes will be high for teams fighting to qualify for the championship decider.

The overall SailGP season offers a US$2 million prize to the team that wins the Grand Final in Abu Dhabi.

There will also be a significant reward available in Dubai, with the event winner set to collect US$400,000 from an overall US$800,000 event prize purse.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi to Decide SailGP Season

The final two events of the 2026 SailGP season will take place in the UAE, putting Dubai and Abu Dhabi at the centre of the championship finale.

After the Dubai event on November 21 and 22, the championship will move to Abu Dhabi for the US$2 million Grand Final on November 28 and 29.

With only one Grand Final place still available, the Dubai event is expected to be a closely contested battle as teams fight for crucial points and the opportunity to compete for the biggest prize of the SailGP season.
