9. Lionfish
Lionfish are famous for their striking appearance, with long, fan-like fins and striped bodies.
But those elegant spines contain venom.
A lionfish sting can cause intense pain, swelling, nausea and other symptoms. Fatalities are uncommon, but severe reactions can occur.
Lionfish are native to the Indo-Pacific and have also become invasive in parts of the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.
They should never be handled casually.
