Up to Dh4,000 fine: Abu Dhabi reveals penalties for littering, cigarette butt disposal
Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport disclosed new penalties for littering in the emirate on Tuesday.
The authority informed the public about possible fines for violations using Instagram based on the type and frequency of the offense. A Dh4,000 fine applies to those who commit repeated offences under the new penalty system.
Abu Dhabi Police handed down 670 penalties for both road spray painting and littering during UAE's 53rd National Day celebration in 2024. Drivers, passengers and pedestrians committed these acts.
This document outlines the current penalties and regulations regarding littering under the Regulation for Public Spaces Maintenance:
Discarding cigarette butts outside designated containers.
Fine for first violation: Dh500
Fine for second violation: Dh1,000
Fine for second violation: Dh2,000
Individuals must not dispose of waste from eating and drinking activities in areas which lack designated disposal containers.
Fine for first violation: Dh500

Leaving waste or similar materials in unauthorized locations.
