UAE confirms Eid Al Fitr holiday dates for private sector employees
Eid Al Fitr holiday for private sector works has been officially announced by the UAE government, and it will last four days.
Believers across the country started fasting for the holy month of Ramadan on February 18, and this early announcement about the Eid Al Fitr holidays will let employees and businesses to plan for a holiday in advance.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has announced the holiday period for private-sector employees would apply from Thursday, March 19, to Saturday, March 21. If Ramadan is 30 days, then the private sector holiday will also be extended to Sunday, March 22, 2026. Sunday is also the official weekend in UAE.
The announcement provides employers and employees ample time to plan for the holiday, a significant travel, leisure and community event.
Eid Al Fitr is the celebration of the end of the holy month of fasting, and celebrated in homes across Kuwait with family, prayers, food and drinks as well as tradition.
When is Eid Al Fitr in UAE?
The dates for Eid Al Fitr will be announced after the crescent moon is sighted. The moon-sighting committee of the United Arab Emirates will also meet on March 18 (the 29th day of Sha’ban) to search for the crescent that signifies the beginning of Shawwal. If the moon is seen on March 18, Ramadan will end that day and Eid celebrations will start from the 19th.
In the name of Allah, I am laying a dilemma If the moon is not spotted 30 days will be completed for Ramadan i.e. on the eve of March 19th fast would be observed and on the morning of March 20 Eid Al Fitr celebrations would commence. The procedure is in line with the Islamic lunar calendar, which relies on sightings of the new crescent moon to begin a new month.
How to stretch a 4-day public holiday?
If a four-day holiday is not long enough for you, here’s how you can make the most of this shorter break with some savvy planning. Applying for leave from Monday to Thursday, March 16-19 gives nine days in total, Saturday March 14, to Sunday March 22 including weekends and the Eid holidays.
With beautiful weather prevailing across the country and nearby nations, many residents are opting for weekend getaways in the GCC rather than to plan long international holidays.
Residents are increasingly planning road trips to destinations near the Kingdom or combining Umrah during the last 10 days of Ramadan with short leisure breaks here and there inside Saudi Arabia during Eid, travel agents said.
