The UAE has reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, warning that the conflict could spread in the region. Addressing the United Nations (UN) Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, expressed concern about the "continuous escalation" of Israel's bombings in Gaza, emphasizing that any delay in ending the conflict results in more casualties and destruction.

She also pointed out that armed extremist groups operating in the region might exploit the conflict to further their destructive agendas, leading to growing tensions in areas like southern Lebanon, the occupied Syrian Golan, and the Red Sea. The UAE minister stressed the need for international efforts to focus on de-escalation and restoring calm as soon as possible.

Al Hashimy highlighted the importance of protecting civilians during conflicts, citing UN data that showed more than 5,000 Palestinians, including 2,000 children, have been killed so far. She emphasized that Israel must avoid targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, and UN facilities. She also called for the immediate and unconditional release of hostages taken by Hamas.

Furthermore, Al Hashimy called for the safe, urgent, sustainable, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, emphasizing the critical need to end the long-standing blockade and provide essential supplies like electricity, water, food, medical resources, and fuel. She mentioned the opening of the Egypt-Gaza Al Rafah crossing as a positive step but noted that more trucks are needed to meet the needs of the Gazans.

Addressing the broader context, Al Hashimy highlighted the prolonged suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank due to hunger, poverty, unemployment, and ongoing settler attacks. She called for the preservation of the legal and historical status quo of Jerusalem and its holy sites, as well as respecting Jordan's role as the custodian of these sites. The UAE emphasized the importance of finding a just, lasting, and comprehensive solution to the conflict and advocated for reviving the two-state solution to fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.
