UAE iPhone fans trade old models, pay advance
Traders in Dubai are experiencing a rise in inquiries, bookings, and a high demand for the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Following the highly anticipated release of Apple's newest product, the buzz is growing for the in-store debut of the iPhone 16 on September 20. Anticipating the release, iPhone fans in the UAE are exchanging their old phones for the newest model.
A number of locals have made prepayments in nearby markets, with an added charge of approximately Dh2,000 to secure their place as one of the initial owners of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Local traders are experiencing a surge in inquiries and reservations, as some customers are opting to sell their old iPhones to make the most of their profits before the new model saturates the market.
Moideen Mustafa, who works as a manager at Phone Line in Deira, stated that the demand has been incredibly high. Since the beginning of September, we have been getting hundreds of requests every day. Numerous fans of the iPhone have already reserved the new iPhone 16 Pro Max by submitting a payment in advance. Mustafa stated that many in the market are willing to purchase on the first day with a markup price of Dh2,000.
Mustafa mentioned that some of our devoted customers have virtually sold their old iPhones to us, but are still actively using them and plan to trade them in for the new model when available.
Traders in Dubai are observing a strong interest among fans for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Mustafa stated that over 100 customers have reserved the iPhone 16 Pro Max with them.
Older models are in great demand
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is in high demand and prices have risen, while the excitement for the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max continues to grow even though supply is limited. Mustafa stated that the iPhone 15 Pro Max, 256GB, was Dh4,000 initially but has increased to Dh4,400 in the local market due to high demand and limited supply.
Aladin Akrami of DLM Wholesale mentioned that pre-owned iPhones have also gained popularity. An iPhone 15 Pro Max with 256GB storage was previously priced at Dh3,230 but is currently being offered for Dh3,500. Akrami stated that there is a significant demand for models with only five months left on their warranty.
Traders also mentioned that customers still want older models such as the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Akrami stated that a second-hand iPhone 14 Pro Max with 128GB costs Dh1,950, while a previously owned iPhone 15 Pro Max with the identical storage size is selling for Dh2,700.
Traders expect prices of iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro Max to stay stable in the upcoming two months, even with the launch of iPhone 16 Pro Max. Akrami mentioned that older versions could experience a price drop in December because of the limited supply of the new iPhone 16 Pro Max.
