UAE confirms chicken stock brand with banned colours not available in local markets

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCae) confirmed on Tuesday, March 4 that Maragatty chicken broth products containing banned colours are not available in UAE local markets.
MoCCae stated its dedication to food safety and consumer protection while highlighting its ongoing work to protect public health.
Following a recall action by the Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA), Maragatty chicken stock cubes were removed from the market on February 28. Consumer safety concerns led to a ban on the artificial colours detected in the product.
The Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) alerted consumers while announcing they had undertaken regulatory steps against the importing company.
The authority instructed the public to dispose of any remaining quantities of the product and refrain from consumption.
'Actively monitoring' coloured food items
MoCCae elevated its food safety efforts in January by "actively monitoring" products which use colour additives.
The US implemented a ban on a synthetic dye which produces a cherry-red color in candies, snacks, fruit products, cakes and certain oral medications because research showed it caused cancer in lab rats.
The Food and Drug Administration banned the use of Red No. 3 dye in food products. The Food and Drug Administration banned Red No. 3 dye from food products more than thirty years after it was first prohibited in cosmetics. The United States has approximately 3,000 food products that currently utilize this dye.
