UAE commission scheme boosts employee earnings through job performance
Certain companies in the UAE are extending commission-based rewards to employees outside of sales teams in recognition of outstanding performance. This program is aiding UAE businesses in keeping their top talent and providing employees with extra income as the cost of living increases in the country.
There has been an increase in commissions/bonuses given to individuals not in sales. It might be assessed based on company results or departmental important indicators. Nicki Wilson, the owner and managing director of Genie Recruitment, mentioned that they could also be centered around customer satisfaction in retail or customer service-oriented settings.
Jigar Sagar, who is the founder and partner of recruitment agency Talent Higher, stated that workers are seeking roles with incentives that offer opportunities to earn extra money based on their performance.
"Traditionally, sales positions were the main recipients of commissions." Currently, we are witnessing a pattern in which employees in the services and operations sector are seeking roles that offer bonuses linked to key performance indicators (KPIs). Sagar, a serial entrepreneur, explained that they are finding ways to increase their earnings indirectly, without harming the business, by providing high-quality services that help the company generate profits, from which they also aim to benefit.
The cost of expenses in the UAE has gone up over the last three and a half years because of a significant rise in rental prices and other factors.
Ways in which employees are boosting their earnings
Sagar stated that employees are highly interested in exploring opportunities to earn extra income within their company.
They choose to do extra responsibilities within the same company instead of seeking another job for a second task. They are considering a second job within the same company, but not directly. Workers combine two roles in order to increase their earnings slightly. The companies are providing this option likely to avoid paying two different salaries. Sagar mentioned that in this manner the employer also cuts costs.
Secondly, he mentioned that workers have begun taking on side gigs and freelance jobs.
It is not common to see individuals in the UAE working multiple jobs, either two or three. While they are employed for one job, many workers are utilizing their various skills to provide freelance services. For instance, digital art pieces created by graphic designers are being sold on e-commerce platforms as a means to make extra money. That type of additional income source is experiencing significant growth. There is a significant increase in freelancers and solo entrepreneurs, also known as one-person companies.
Sagar stated that with the rise in the cost of living, employees have reconsidered their expenses and are looking for ways to reduce them. "I observe individuals pooling rides and reducing living space." They no longer waste money. It is evident that individuals are starting to steer clear of pricey brands while shopping, instead prioritizing relevant and essential expenses.
Nicki Wilson from Genie Recruitment mentioned that an increasing number of individuals are turning to side hustles and investments to boost their earnings. However, very few streets are actually paved with gold, contrary to popular belief. Focusing on their jobs could result in increased income and expanded opportunities for individuals. I am noticing an increasingly distracted workforce emerging in this generation and it is concerning.
"We observe many individuals who frequently change jobs, which may lead to higher earnings in the short run. However, this practice can have a negative impact on their resume in the long term. Therefore, we recommend considering career progression in a comprehensive way." She recommended taking into account salary, benefits, company culture, opportunities for advancement, the team dynamic, and how well it fits with your long-term career objectives, not just focusing on the financial aspect.
She suggested that employers should provide additional benefits such as education to assist employees in facing increasing financial difficulties.
Employers need to have conversations with their employees to understand their needs and begin putting into practice new policies to help reduce the increasing costs. This may involve rewards, monetary bonuses, additional trips, benefits for family members, or activities related to wellness. The founder of Genie Recruitment stated that losing good employees can be costlier in the long run, and sometimes just a small gesture can help with retention.
