Stunning Hatta mural made of 1.2 million marble pieces honours UAE founders
In ornate splendour, water cascades down a beautifully crafted marble mural situated on the slopes of the Hatta Dam Falls depicting UAE leaders, Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum – the founding fathers of the United Arab Emirates.
Brand Dubai, which is the creative unit of the Dubai Government Media Office and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) worked together on this meticulous piece of 2,198.7 square metres within the picturesque scenery.
This public art was coordinated by Sergey Korbasov, a Russian artist, together with more than 100 local and international craftsmen from worldwide places who supported the project. More than four months of painstaking efforts went into the making of this mosaic which involved successfully embedding 1.2 million pieces approximately sized 5 x 5 centimeters each.
Apart from the Hajar mountains providing a breathtaking view, the mosaic appears to be made of rocks and soil which are indigenous to the Hatta area ensuring the work of art relates with the surrounding setting and history.
The Hatta Dam site is embellished by the elegant view of water gushing down the dam. Many modern technologies were used in the mosaic work, the colors of which were based on the costume of the sages who founded the country which gave the painting historical and emotional significance.
This Guinness World Record-holding mosaic pane is showing the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai to transform the emirate into a big open air museum.
The mural was launched as part of the #ZayedAndRashid campaign which highlights the major patriotic events starting from Flag Day on the 3rd of November and ending with the 53rd Eid Al Etihad on the 2nd of December.
This campaign was initiated to pay respect and honor paid to the founding fathers of the UAE who played a role in unifying the nation and its citizens. This project is a great way for visitors to learn about the great leaders who have walked this land and have certainly changed the history of the UAE as well as its heritage.
