Sharjah has eliminated the requirement that people of determination (PoD) display their identification cards behind their vehicle windscreens in order to obtain free parking. These cards will now be linked to the public parking system of the municipality automatically.

To avoid parking fines, PoD cards had to be left visible. But there are instances when scanning vehicles and patrol cameras miss dashboard cards.

The Sharjah City Municipality will now automatically register PoD cards under the new integrated system.

Smart inspections of public parking spaces are crucial to the municipality, but scanning vehicles can only read licence plates. "So, the cards for people of determination, which are typically placed in front of the vehicle, are not within the reading range of the vehicles," explained Hamed Al Qaed of the Sharjah City Municipality's Public Parking Department.

"This results in parking violations being recorded against people of determination, who are supposed to get free parking," according to him. We have resolved this issue with our new automated service.

If you have a PoD card, Al Qaed says you should sign up for their integrated public parking system so you can park for free in any lot without taking the card out of your vehicle.

"It adds more flexibility for people with disabilities when using Sharjah City parking lots and saves them time and effort," according to him.UAE: Eni and Sharjah National Oil Corporation to Investigate Ras Al Khaimah for Potential Oil Reserves
