Now, commuters can work at Burjuman Metro Station; here's how
The bustling Burjuman Metro Station in Dubai now hosts a unique addition: WO-RK, a co-working space designed for commuters. Launched in partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), this innovative workspace opened its doors on Tuesday, June 25. The colorful and well-designed spaces offer a convenient office setting within one of Dubai’s busiest metro stations, allowing commuters to work on the go with rates starting at Dh35 per day.
Shahzad Bhatti, founder of The Co-Spaces, provided further details on the pricing structure. "Currently, we have a promotional offer. The regular rates include a day pass for Dh35, a part-time membership for Dh200 per month allowing 30 hours of usage, and a full-time membership for Dh650 per month with unlimited hours," Bhatti explained. The workspace also features a pantry with complimentary water and coffee, enhancing the working experience for users.
The co-working space at Burjuman Metro has a capacity of 100 people and is open from 8 am to 8 pm on weekdays. Bhatti shared that RTA recommended Burjuman due to its status as the busiest station. "RTA suggested Burjuman because it is the busiest station. They informed us that if we can manage it here, we can potentially expand WO-RK to other metro stations in the future," Bhatti told Khaleej Times.
Strategically located within the Dubai Metro network, WO-RK @Burjuman Metro offers seamless accessibility, eliminating the need for car commuting and providing last-mile transport solutions. Bhatti highlighted that this flexible workspace will encourage more companies to set up in Dubai, a city known for its thriving community of entrepreneurs, freelancers, and hybrid workers. "This flexible workspace will help more companies set up in Dubai. Dubai is a city filled with entrepreneurs, freelancers, and people with hybrid work schedules, so offering this space will be a relief for many," he noted.
Bhatti emphasized that the renovated workspace offers an alternative and additional option for users needing a different setting. "Sometimes you need to be in a different setting, away from the noise. We once had a man who said he needed to get away from his dog," he shared. The space, open to students and employees alike, provides affordable pricing packages and has no age limits. "Metro users are eager for a convenient, affordable place to focus and work," Bhatti added.
Originally from the UK, Bhatti reflected on his early exposure to the co-working concept in London, where it gained popularity in the early 2000s. "I started very young in the business world, and in London, the co-working concept peaked in the early 2000s, which is when I was first exposed to it. When I moved here, I had the idea of a business center, but I always thought of it as a co-working concept," he explained.
The Co-Spaces, certified by Dubai SME as a business incubator, provides innovative co-working solutions. The launch of WO-RK @Burjuman Metro redefines the entrepreneurial environment in Dubai, alleviating congestion and reducing carbon emissions from last-mile travel. This initiative supports a sustainable urban environment and aligns with progressive workspace ethos.
Embracing the hybrid workspace model, WO-RK by The Co-Spaces caters to the evolving needs of individuals beyond conventional fixed work environments. The introduction of this co-working space within Burjuman Metro Station aligns with RTA’s strategic goals and the Dubai Urban Plan 2040, which aims to make Dubai the world's leading city for living by improving accessibility and fostering better integration.
Spanning 4,000 square feet, WO-RK @Burjuman Metro provides members with the flexibility to book private offices, meeting rooms, or access open-plan spaces according to their needs. The overarching goal is to create a versatile and adaptable environment that actively supports a healthy work/life balance for all members, contributing to a more dynamic and accessible urban workspace in Dubai.
