The research highlights a worrying trend of decreasing activity levels among younger generations, with only 23% of Gen Z engaging in daily exercise compared to 80% of baby boomers. The ASICS State of Mind study, conducted across 22 countries including the UAE, emphasizes the direct correlation between exercise during teenage years and positive mental health outcomes later in life. The findings reveal that individuals who remain physically active during adolescence report higher levels of mental wellbeing as adults. Conversely, those who drop out of exercise during their teenage years experience lower activity levels and state of mind scores in adulthood.

Professor Brendon Stubbs, a leading expert in exercise and mental health from King's College London, underscores the alarming decline in activity levels among younger respondents. He emphasizes the critical nature of the ages 15 to 17, highlighting that dropping out of exercise during this period significantly impacts mental state for years to come. The study underscores the importance of regular exercise in maintaining optimal mental health, with every year of engagement in physical activity during adolescence contributing to improved state of mind scores in adulthood.
