A classmate's passing can have a profound impact on students, particularly younger ones. UAE schools provide students with flexible support systems, counseling, and empathy in order to help them work through their grief.

Following a devastating event in Sharjah that resulted in the death of a seven-year-old boy, educators and wellness specialists stress the significance of recognizing and meeting the emotional needs of students during such trying times.
The traumatic effects of losing a friend are highlighted by Abhilasha Singh, Principal of Shining Star International, who also emphasizes the need for specialized support and a safe space for students to express their feelings. While efforts to build resilience and social-emotional learning programs are essential for long-term support, school counselors are essential in helping students understand the situation and manage their feelings.

Amity School Dubai counselor Sushma Dmello emphasizes the value of fostering a caring environment where students feel heard and supported during their grieving process. Instructors and counselors assist students in adjusting to the loss without impeding their academic performance by providing emotional support, coping mechanisms, and accommodations.

Experts emphasize how crucial it is to acknowledge that every student grieves in a unique way and to provide them with opportunities for celebration and remembering. Energy healer and life coach Girish Hemnani, who practices in Dubai, stresses the importance of meaningful rituals or tributes to honor the life of the departed friend and find solace in group support.

UAE schools work to build resilience and emotional well-being within the school community while assisting students in adjusting to the loss of a classmate. They do this by showing empathy, understanding, and pro-active support.
