Former United Arab Emirates fast bowler Ali Asad Abbas is now on a mission to unearth fast bowling talent from all across the country in order to bolster the resources of his national team.

Abbas who himself had to overcome a number of odds to be successful is now holding a Speed hunt programme to identify young bowlers who can then be nurtured and offered to the national side.

He is being back by Mohammad Tauqir, who was UAE’s captain in the 2015 Cricked World Cup. Tauqir is currently the national selector. This aforementioned Speed Hunt programme will take place at the Eden Garden’s Ajman ground on July 20th from 4 pm.

Asad has prior coaching experience, as he initially coached in Abu Dhabi before shifting to Sharjah where he set up his own coaching centre which was called Ali Cricket Training Centre.

“My next programme is to stage a speed hunt for Under-17 and Under-19 cricketers in September. “Budding players can write to me on [email protected]. There are many clubs like Defenders Cricket Club, Titans, Cricket Training Centre, MVCA and also Al Wafaa Carton Boxes Industry who have come forward to support my programme,” said Asad.

The former International player’s career was never easy as he never got guidance and adequate support when he was young and bowled rather quick. He even played for Pakistan A side, but never could go on to play for Pakistan.

“There are many fast bowlers here [in the UAE] and this Speed Hunt programme is meant for them to come and bowl and show their speed. I want fast bowlers to chase speed. To make it competitive we will give a cash prize of Dh500 and a trophy for the fastest bowler and the rest will get certificates. There is no age-limit for this programme. After this programme, I will run a fast bowlers camp,” he was as quoted by Gulf News.
