Former free zone CEO in UAE gets 10 years in jail
He has been found guilty of embezzlement of public funds.
The former CEO of Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone Authority (RAK FTZ) has been sentenced to 10 years in jail for embezzling around Dh2.13 million in public funds.
Oussama Al Omari, former CEO and director-general of RAK FTZ, was found to have put up a bogus company for 'renting hotels' and the authority had been paying the firm for years without any benefit, court records show.
Abdulrahim Mirzaq, another ex-official who was involved in the case, was sentenced to three years in prison.
"They have formed a fake company for renting hotels just to embezzle the public funds of the Ras Al Khaimah Free Trade Zone Authority," the public prosecution said.
The duo was also ordered to return the Dh2.128 million they squandered and fined with the same amount.
