Dubai to Start New Flight Route to India

New Route from Dubai to India
Flights will start running between Bhubaneswar (BBI) and Dubai International Airport (DXB) from Monday May 15

A new international flight service looks set to bolster the connection between Dubai and India.

That’s because IndiGo will soon start operations out of Bhubaneswar – the capital city of the state of Odisha.

The Indian budget airline will open up the city to international flights for the first time.

Flights will start running between Bhubaneswar (BBI) and Dubai International Airport (DXB) from Monday May 15, with ticket prices starting at Dhs447.

The non-stop service will take just over four hours.

It’s an incredible jump for Bhubaneswar as a city – and Odisha as a state – as previous trips (requiring connection flights) can take as long as 14 hours.

Naveen Patnaik, State Chief Minister of Odisha, said: “Connectivity is the key to development and it has been a focus area of our government.

“Direct connectivity with Dubai, which is one of the biggest aviation hubs, will open up a gateway to the world.”

Odisha has long sought direct international flights. Currently, the only overseas routes from the state are via connection flights from Indian cities such as Delhi and Kolkata.

Bhubaneswar will join the following Indian airports offering direct flight routes to Dubai:

Ahmedabad
Bengaluru
Chennai
Delhi
Hyderabad
Kochi
Kolkata
Mumbai

It comes as Dubai International’s influence and reputation continues to grow, ranking first globally for the 9th consecutive year as the world’s busiest airport by international traffic in 2022.

In March, DXB also welcomed Cyprus Airways’ inaugural flight from Larnaca.

The carrier is now operating three weekly flights between the two destinations on a 180-seat capacity Airbus A320 aircraft.

DXB is currently connected to 230 destinations across 95 plus countries via more than 85 international airlines.
