Dubai International Airport remains world busiest with 60.2 million seats in 2024
Dubai International Airport (DXB) enters 2025 as the most populous international airport of 2024 with 60.236 million seats (of airlines), up 7 per cent over last year, says global aviation consultant OAG.
Despite its state, the airport saw 12 per cent more seats booked than the same period of pre-pandemic 2019. This leadership at Dubai airport has been backed by Emirates and flydubai with their massive hub and over 265 destinations.
(Fun fact: the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) recently said that there were more than 1 million flights in the UAE last year and Emirates Flight 305 from Shanghai was the one millionth flight to depart on December 22, 2024.
It is 10th place, but Qatar’s Doha airport was the only GCC airport not among the 10 highest-ranking with 32.455 million seats, up 13 per cent. Doha airport slipped from 9th in 2023 to 10th in 2024.
Second-placed London Heathrow Airport trails Dubai by 11.877 million seats; the airport had 48.358 million seats last year, OAG reports. It had a 4 per cent increase in seats vs 2023.
Third busiest international airport was Seoul Incheon International with 41.633 million passengers. Other airports — Singapore Changi 4th Amsterdam Istanbul Paris Charles de Gaulle Frankfurt International Hong Kong International.
Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta was the busiest airport in the world in 2024 with 62.7 million travelers. This includes domestic as well as international flights.
Second place went to Dubai International, Tokyo International, London Heathrow, Dallas/Fort Worth International, Denver International, Guangzhou Baiyun, Istanbul Shanghai Pudong International and Chicago O’Hare International.
