Dubai announces 2 new state-of-the-art bus stations
'The design caters to the needs of sustainability and people of determination'
Dubai announced two new state-of-the-art bus stations on Saturday.
In a session chaired by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, the Board of Directors awarded a contract for constructing two bus stations at Oud Metha and Al Satwa.

The stations will accommodate integrated facilities for bus riders including parking spaces, pick-up and drop-off points, retail outlets, restaurants and offices.
"The new stations also boast of a unique design that blends innovative engineering designs with new concepts of public transport.
"The state-of-the-art design caters to the needs of sustainability and people of determination, yet it is coherent with the identity and shape of RTA's stations," a brief statement issued said.
The stations accommodate integrated facilities for bus riders including parking spaces, pick-up and drop-off points, retail outlets, restaurants and offices.
HE said: “The new stations boast of a unique design that blends innovative engineering designs with new concepts of public transport".
The planned Oud Metha bus station spans an area of 9640 square metres, comprising a ground floor and two floors in addition to a roof top car parking to accommodate 10 slots for buses, 20 for out-of-service buses, and 316 parking spaces for vehicles.
It will be constructed in close proximity to Oud Metha Metro Station, schools, community clubs and offices in the area. The station will serve numerous bus routes, including Dubai Academic City and the International City.
The average number of riders using the station is expected to be 10,000 riders per day. There will be a pick-up and drop-off point, parking for waiting /standby buses, and parking spaces for taxis, employees, visitors as well as bike racks.
The facilities also include air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned shelters, furnished public restrooms, prayer rooms for men and women, staff offices, and a children's corner. There will also be self-service kiosks, nol card machines, bus information display panel, customer's happiness' index, ATMs, refreshment and snacks vending machines.
Satwa station
The planned bus station in Satwa, for its part, will cover an area of 11,912 square metres, comprising of a ground plus one floor structure with rooftop parking. It will also have ample parking space for buses, taxis and private vehicles.
The station can accommodate 7,800 passengers per day, which is expandable in the future to 15,000 passengers per day.
The station will have 15 operational parking for buses, 20 parking slots for out-of-service buses, 227 parking for vehicles plus other amenities such as prayer rooms for men and women, staff offices, public toilets and refreshment areas.
Meanwhile, the RTA has also started the development of 17 bus stations/stops and a depot to host buses at Al Quoz to meet the needs of Expo 2020.
These bus stations will be integrated with the Dubai bus network after the end of Expo. The developments are part of the RTA's goal to raise the share of public transport in in intra-emirate travel to as much as 30 per cent by 2030.
