Champions Trophy preparations on schedule

PCB also cleared the air on whether this year’s Champions Trophy ground is fit as it invited media to tour the stadiums of Lahore and Karachi on Monday.

This eight-team 50-overs competition will be the first international tournament to come to Pakistan in 28 years. The Indians will be playing all their matches in Dubai though as the countries are not good friends.

Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi are all getting upgraded and more if the tournament succeeds could come in a nation deemed dangerous after a 2009 attack on visiting Sri Lankan cricketers.

"We are on track to complete the upgrade and restoration of Gaddafi Stadium (Lahore)," said PCB spokeman Sami Ul Hasan.

"We should have the venue transferred to us at the end of the month. "We don't have any question whether Gaddafi Stadium is fully prepared to host the Champions Trophy match between Australia and England on Feb. 22."

The stadium was made larger (capacity is 35,000 fans) and additional hospitality spaces were constructed.

Lahore and Karachi will open with a tri-nation tournament which will also include New Zealand and South Africa, next month to show that they are up to speed for Champions Trophy which kicks off on Feb. 19.
