CBSE’s new move allows Grade 10, 12 students to review answer sheets online

Students in the UAE who recently appeared for the CBSE board exams have received a welcome opportunity for transparency and clarity in their assessment process. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a new initiative allowing Grade 10 and 12 students to review their answer sheets online. This move comes as a significant step towards empowering students to verify the marks assigned to them and address any concerns regarding discrepancies.

Upon the announcement of the board results, candidates will receive a link through which they can access their answer sheets and check the marks awarded to them. This service will be available for a period of five days after the link becomes active, providing ample time for students to review their assessments thoroughly. To utilize this facility, students are required to pay a specified fee, which allows them to scrutinize their answer sheets and seek clarification on any issues pertaining to their marks.

Pramod Mahajan, Principal of Sharjah Indian School, emphasized the transparency and vigilance of the CBSE in the correction process. He highlighted the board's commitment to ensuring fairness by making the answer sheets available online for the first time. Additionally, Mahajan explained that students also have the option of applying for revaluation if they believe they have been unfairly graded. The revaluation process involves both re-totalling of marks and complete revaluation, providing students with a recourse for addressing any discrepancies in their assessment.

Educators have also welcomed this initiative, recognizing its potential to benefit both students and teachers. With access to evaluated answer scripts, teachers gain valuable insights into students' performance and can tailor future instruction accordingly. Sangita Chima, Principal of Amity School Dubai, praised the shift towards competency-focused questions, which enables teachers and students to understand specific answers and enhance learning outcomes. Chima highlighted the efficiency of the new process, contrasting it with the lengthy procedures of re-evaluation and re-totalling in the past.

Furthermore, school leaders emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the assessment process. By allowing students and parents to immediately access evaluated answer scripts, the CBSE's initiative eliminates ambiguity and enables prompt resolution of any discrepancies. This, in turn, empowers students to identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions about seeking revaluation if necessary.

However, despite the positive aspects of this initiative, some concerns have been raised by stakeholders. Abhilasha Singh, Principal of Shining Star International, expressed mixed feelings towards the new system. While acknowledging its benefits for students, Singh highlighted the potential inequity arising from the fee-based nature of the service, which may pose challenges for students with limited financial resources.

Nevertheless, the introduction of online answer sheet review represents a significant advancement in the CBSE assessment process, marking a shift towards greater transparency, efficiency, and student empowerment. As students eagerly await the release of their results, this initiative offers them a valuable opportunity to engage with their assessments in a meaningful way, paving the way for a more equitable and accountable education system.
