The Philippine embassies in the UAE have alerted their kababayan about deceptive websites providing false information on the forthcoming visa amnesty beginning on September 1.

The Philippine Embassy stated that they have received concerning reports of fake text messages and emails containing links to websites claiming to be the registration portal for the amnesty.

The Philippine Embassy advises everyone to be cautious when entering sensitive or personal information on suspicious websites. The mission advised people to share personal information only with verified sites. The UAE Government has not yet provided details about the two-month visa amnesty programme.

Rest assured that the embassy will keep working closely with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) and related agencies. The Philippine mission stated that official advisories/announcements will be shared with the public as soon as they are ready.

Intelligent systems for utilization

Immigration officials talked about the arrangements and steps for the visa amnesty program last week. Intelligent systems will be implemented to streamline the procedure.

Since 2007, the UAE government will introduce its fourth amnesty program. The previous amnesty scheme, which was scheduled to last for 90 days until October 31, 2018, was extended by the federal government for an additional two months until December 31 of that year to give more residency violators the opportunity to fix their status or depart the country without facing any penalties, despite the fact that this happened six years ago.

In 2007, approximately 342,000 UAE residents availed of a two-month amnesty, and during 2012/2013, over 60,000 migrants utilized the service countrywide.

In Dubai in 2018, the GDRFA reported that 105,809 violators of residence visas had requested amnesty. During the five-month initiative that concluded on December 31, 2018, a significant amount of dirhams in fines were waived.
