Dubai's iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel hosts an exclusive three-day event featuring a Dh10-million handmade antique Persian carpet, showcasing Heritage Carpet's rare and intricate collection. The carpets, crafted through five generations, were once commissioned by royals and now provide a glimpse into the 1800s. Heritage Carpet, a family-owned business tracing its roots to Persia (Iran), claims to have one of the world's largest assortments of premium, handcrafted carpets.

The Dh10-million carpet, made to special order, bears a significant signature indicating the person for whom it was crafted. The carpet, with a history spanning hundreds of years, boasts unusual size, design, and colors. Despite being exposed to daily activities, it remains in perfect condition, taking seven years to weave by multiple artisans.

The carpet's origin lies with the Bakhtiari, a nomadic tribe renowned for their unique carpet-making style. Comparable to those found in Buckingham Palace, the carpet showcases intricate craftsmanship, including a lack of templates, vibrant colors, and unusual designs.

Afshin Ghanbarinia, Vice Chairman of Heritage Carpet, emphasizes the sustainability of these carpets. Crafted from sheep's wool and hand-spun, the dyes are derived from vegetables, with water heated through wood boiling, leaving a negligible carbon footprint. Despite their environmental friendliness, these carpets gained global interest and underwent multiple sales and resales.

Heritage Carpet's carpets tell diverse narratives through their intricate patterns, depicting scenes from a bygone era. Crafted from wool and silk, these Persian carpets feature fertility, abundance, and eternal life, adorned with unique, non-repeating motifs. The Ghanbarinia family initiated their carpet-selling business in 1841, establishing their first Dubai store four decades ago. Heritage Carpet now boasts a presence in 30 countries with 85 showrooms and boutiques.

Amir Ghanbarinia, Managing Director of Heritage Carpet, positions Persian carpets as a luxury checklist item for wealthy individuals worldwide. He notes that while cars and other possessions may depreciate, handmade carpets appreciate over time, standing for heritage.

Walter Hahn, a private carpet collector, highlights the priceless nature of these carpets, stored in cold rooms for optimal conditions. While smaller carpets in the collection are priced between $50,000 and $100,000, dating back a century, older pieces command even higher prices. Hahn notes the significance lies in the design and colors, emphasizing the vibrant and enduring qualities of these carpets.

The Burj Al Arab event showcases not only the rare Dh10-million carpet but also provides a glimpse into the rich history and craftsmanship of Heritage Carpet's collection. With sustainability, intricate design, and historical significance, these carpets serve as both timeless works of art and investments, standing testament to a legacy that spans generations. Visit the Burj Al Arab to witness the beauty and craftsmanship of these exquisite carpets from January 22, 2024, to explore a piece of history under the shimmering lights of Dubai.
